While a GMA pallet can hold about 4,700 lbs, many industries see much lower maximum weights.

For example, most food and beverage distributors cap pallet weights at 2,500-3,000 lbs. A traditional forklift can easily handle that weight. However, a forklift wastes a lot of space if you're using it to lift light loads.

In these cases, a walkie stacker might be the better choice.

Clark heavy-duty walkie stacker forklifts excel in these situations. They can handle heavy loads and are far more maneuverable than a standard forklift. Consequently, you can use narrower aisles and maximize your storage space without losing any productivity.

Read on to learn more about the benefits and applications of Clark walkie stackers.

Clark Walkie Stacker Benefits

Each walkie stacker model has its own benefits, but all heavy-duty Clark walkie forklifts share some important features.

Electromagnetic Brakes

Clark’s heavy-duty walkie stackers all include maintenance-free electromagnetic brakes.

These brakes don’t need a master cylinder, seals, or hydraulic fluid. There are no leaks to fix nor components to replace. Instead, they use powerful magnets to slow and stop fully loaded units. These magnets engage automatically when the control handle is in the upright or down position. Likewise, they engage as a parking brake whenever the unit stops, preventing rollbacks.

Electromagnetic brakes significantly improve operator safety and handling.

Heavy-Duty Mast

Like their forklifts, Clark walkie stackers feature their famous nested I-beam masts.

This mast design improves stability and strength, allowing each model to lift larger loads. Additionally, the mast’s steel construction improves durability and extends the unit’s working life. The longer the lifespan, the better your ROI.

The combination of durability, strength, and stability ensures each model stands up to the punishment of heavy, daily use.

Simplified Maintenance

Every stacker design features numerous maintenance-reducing features.

Accessible components make service calls quick and easy. Technicians don’t waste time deconstructing the unit for routine inspections and maintenance. Additionally, many onboard systems include maintenance-free designs. The electromagnetic brakes mentioned above are one example. However, the transmissions, AC travel controllers, and AC drive motors are all either low-maintenance or no-maintenance.

Reduced maintenance and easy access components ensure Clark walkie stackers maximize uptime.

Ergonomic Controls

Ergonomic, anti-fatigue controls keep your staff working comfortably longer.

The control handle allows the operator to adjust travel speed, lift and lower loads, and maneuver the unit with one hand. Ambidextrous operation allows the operator to use whichever hand is most convenient, reducing fatigue and improving ease of use. The wraparound handguard, butterfly thumb controls, reverse switch, and horn are all standard features.

Collectively, these intuitive controls provide superior comfort, maneuverability, and safety.

Walk Behind Pallet Stacker Types

While they all share Clark's industry-leading features, each walkie stacker model is purpose-built.

WSTX30/35 Counter-Balanced Stacker

The WSTX30/35 is a fantastic, no-nonsense workhorse.

This is your classic heavy-duty counter-balance walkie stacker. These units lift up to 3,500 lbs to heights of up to 157 inches. Fully loaded, the WSTX30/35 easily handles 5% grades with its 24V battery. Additionally, its regenerative braking function extends battery life and lowers the total cost of ownership.

The WSTX30/35’s foundational design makes it a great fit for nearly every industry.

WSTX22 Counter-Balanced Stacker

The WST22 is a smaller cousin to the WST30/35.

It has similar dimensions and can lift 2,200 lbs to a maximum height of 128 inches. This streamlined model can move at a comfortably quick 3.1 mph while fully loaded. Just like its larger counterpart, the WSTX22 features regenerative braking to safely manage speed while extending battery life. Additionally, the onboard plug-in charger simplifies battery management.

The WSTX22 finds a sweet spot between power and size that makes it a great fit for the construction material, food and beverage, and warehousing industries.

SSX12/16/18 Walkie Straddle Stacker

For heavier lifting and tight aisles, the SSX12/16/18 is a popular choice.

This straddle stacker lifts up to 4,000 lbs with a right-angle stack of 98.5 inches. The secret is the adjustable outriggers. By supporting the load weight closer to the unit’s center of gravity, straddle stackers create very stable lifting platforms with lower profiles.

The combination of these features makes the SSX12/16/18 ideal for narrow aisle warehouses.

WSRX30 Walkie Reach Truck

The WSRX30 is essentially a straddle stacker with a pantograph.

Like a traditional straddle stacker, the adjustable outriggers provide exceptional stability, allowing the WSRX30 to lift up to 3,000 lbs. The pantograph allows the unit to reach almost two feet into racking to retrieve pallets. Additionally, its tight-turning design enables right-angle stacking in aisles as narrow as 79.5 inches.

The WSRX30’s long reach and narrow-aisle design make it an exceptional choice for operations looking to maximize storage density.

Walkie Stackers for Every Operation

Great things come in small packages with Clark walkie stackers.

These mighty machines feature all the industry-leading design that makes Clark forklifts so popular, but in a fraction of the space. When a forklift is too much, but a pallet jack isn’t enough, a walkie stacker is the best solution. However, picking the right unit is about more than just load capacity.
